System Overview
The BATMOUSE SYSTEM consists of the files:
BATMOUSE.COM The main program for interfacing your/any
batch file to your mouse driver.
BATMOUSE.TXT A reference document that explains how
BATMOUSE communicates with batch files
and how DIRECTOR.BAT works.
DIRECTOR.BAT A sample batch file which is described in
BATMOUSE.TXT.
DIRECTOR.TXT Same as the .BAT version but with line numbers.
REGISTER.DOC A form for obtaining the 'no-nonsense' and
latest version of BATMOUSE.
DEMO.BAT A demo showing the predefined background screens.
SHOW.COM Displays screens created with commercial program
SAYWHAT. The syntax is 'SHOW DIRSCNnn' where 'nn'
represents the last 2 characters of the screen name.
DIRSCNnn.SQZ These are screen files that have been previously
created and which are displayed by program SHOW.
REPLY.COM Performs a function similar to BATMOUSE without
the mouse. See BATMOUSE.DOC.
README This file.
The following setup notes may prove useful:
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The installation consists of copying files from the diskette and
then interfacing BATMOUSE with your existing batch file or modifying
DIRECTOR.BAT to create a new batch file.
TO TRANSFER BATMOUSE TO DRIVE C: IN DIRECTORY \NEWDIR YOU
WOULD TYPE:
C:
CD \
MD \NEWDIR
CD \NEWDIR
COPY A:*.*
BE SURE TO HAVE CREATED A DIRECTORY ON THAT DRIVE FOR BATMOUSE
AND TO HAVE CHANGED THE DEFAULT DIRECTORY TO THE NEW
DIRECTORY!!!!
If you wish to use some other floppy drive for this process,
Replace 'A:' with '<yourdrive>:'.
Before you can use the current version of DIRECTOR.BAT you must
add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS:
DEVICE=C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS
This should work unless your DOS files are in another directory. In
that case replace the reference to 'DOS' with 'YOURDIR'. In either
case you must then reboot your system. Various versions of ANSI.SYS
require approximately 4K of memory.
For a quick look at how BATMOUSE works, type BATMOUSE <ENTER>! Make
sure you have loaded your MOUSE.COM OR MOUSE.SYS program before you
use BATMOUSE. BATMOUSE will display a message 'MOUSE.COM NOT LOADED'
and return to the calling program if you have not loaded your mouse
driver.
You should see the time displayed in the upper right corner and the
mouse displayed in the center of the screen.
When you press a key or a mouse button, the program ends and the screen
is left in an undisturbed state - the mouse cursor disappears and the
normal cursor reappears.
If you type SET <ENTER> your environment will be displayed and you
should see the BATMOUSE variables HR & VC (horizontal row & vertical
column). If you pressed a mouse button these variables will contain
values representing the row and column at which the button was pressed. If
you pressed any key on the keyboard, both variables will contain a '-'.
If you run BATMOUSE again the mouse cursor will appear at the point
where the last mouse button was pressed. If the last key press was not
the mouse (ie, a key on the keyboard) the mouse cursor appears in the
middle of the screen.
Refer to BATMOUSE.DOC for more specific information on the use of
BATMOUSE, a description of the DIRECTOR.BAT & DIRECTOR.TXT files and
interfacing your batch file with BATMOUSE.
This version of DIRECTOR includes a royalty free commercial product (SHOW)
on lines 205 & 211 to display predefined screens generated by the parent
product SAYWHAT. The DEMO.BAT file may be use to see the different types
of background screens that are used with the DIRECTOR. The main reason for
their existence is to speed up the screen painting process - they require
no modification for use. The complete name of the screen file is displayed
at the top of the screen - the significance of the name is in the two
numeric characters found on the left of the '.SQZ'.
These two characters are passed to the DIRECTOR as parameter 1 and
tested/used as %1. If no parameters are passed the default
monochrome screen (DIRSCR) is displayed.
If you want to demonstrate the DIRECTOR.BAT file in its current form,
make sure that you don't select the programs since most of them and their
directories are probably not present on your system. Also, change the
references to C: to your drive. The CD \ command just before the BATMOUSE
call should be modified to read CD \NEWDIR - this will allow the DIRECTOR
to run in the directory you copied the programs to. If you click on F8
on any of the menu pages, nothing happens except that the screen gets
completely repainted. This is because there are no entries for the
DIRECTOR to carry out - You may want to install your first program in one
of the F8 lines page 1, 2 or 3.
Use some of the follow examples to try out DIRECTOR.BAT:

There is a more in depth review of the parameters if file BATMOUSE.TXT.
Try clicking on the upper and lower parts of the screen (Page UP & Page DOWN).
You may want to try the WINDOWS call as it may work on your system. Make
sure you modify the CD \ command as discussed above.
To exit, press <ESC>, Q, F9 or click on F9.
Help is available by pressing H.
You may upload this software to any BBS (zipped or not) as long as all
file are included in their unmodified state.
